FOOD SAFETY SUPERVISOR Course - FSS  (next Saturday class 2/7/2011, 6/8/2011)

NEW Legislation for people who work in Hospitality and Retail Food Sectors

In 2009 Parliament passed legislation that requires certain food businesses in the hospitality and retail food service sector to have at least one trained Food Safety Officer on duty.

Businesses have until 1 October 2011 to appoint their trained Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) and notify the local Council of their FSS Certificate details.

Thereafter, all staff involved in food handling will require this qualification.

The legislation also requires refresher training every 5 years.

The Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) requirement applies to businesses serving food that is ready to eat. 

Some examples of businesses include:

• restaurants

• cafe

• takeaway shops

• caterers

• bakeries

• pubs and clubs

• hotels

• supermarket

• and where hot food is sold.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available under certain circumstances. Enquire at the College for RPL eligibility details.

FSS courses can also be delivered on-site at workplaces for groups of 8 - 20 staff.

Course is held in a 1 day workshop format.

Course is Trainer-led and classroom based (not online)

The Food Safety Supervisor must be trained by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) approved by the NSW Food Safety Authority.

This course is run in partnership with Camden Haven Community College who is approved by the NSW Food Authority to deliver FSS training and issue FSS certificates.
